Best Log Cabin Kit: Allwood Avalon Cabin Kit – 540 SQF + Loft
Best Log Cabin Kit
Allwood Avalon Cabin Kit – 540 SQF + Loft
This is our Top Pick. We found the Allwood Avalon cabin kit to be a really great choice, our reason for this being our Top Pick? Well, that’s because of its versatility and build quality. For example, you even could use it as a guest house.
We all know it’s nice to have friends and family staying over, but finding that extra space to accommodate them is often not easy to do. It’s much better if they have their own space to return to at the end of the day.
Or, you can simply just indulge yourselves and use it as a summer house and spend all those fantastic summer days and nights in your home from home, at home.
Don’t think that this is just a big garden shed, the Allwood Avalon cabin kit is made from high-quality Nordic wood.
For example, the Allwood Avalon cabin kit features double glass windows and doors and also has thicker wall planks than you would normally find in other makes of log cabins. The wall planks are actually 2-3/4″ thick, and it also comes with some nice and sturdy 1-1/8″ T&G Floorboards, that’s not something you’d find a garden shed made out of that’s for sure, this is proper construction stuff.
The thing that really impressed me about the Allwood Avalon cabin kit was just how much you can fit into it, and it still looks roomy. The important thing is, if this is for guests or family or even just for yourself, then you want this place to be somewhere to escape to and enjoy, not somewhere pokey and drab.
Now the fun bit, well for some people anyway, planning on where to fit in all those homely items and with the wall height of 8’2″ and a ridge height: 12’11”, you really do have a lot of room to play with.
Still can’t picture in your mind where that couch will go or where to put the TV, dining table or which is the best place for your favorite armchair, then check out the picture below. It’ll hopefully help to give you answers to those questions.
As for those days when the weather decides it’s time to stir things up a bit, well those thick walls start to do their stuff, keeping the whole place together. This Allwood Avalon cabin kit has a wind load capacity of 120 MPH with the 2-3/4″ walls, but if you think that’s not good enough? then go for the upgrade option of 3-5/8″ walls that’ll give you a wind load capacity of 140 MPH. Again it’s all down to the quality of the construction materials used, that’s the important thing to note here, this most definitely isn’t a big garden shed.
Ok, so it can look after itself when it comes to windy weather, What about snow? I hear you ask. Yes, I know we don’t want to be thinking about the freezing cold and all that snowy weather, but this log cabin can handle some pretty decent falls of snow and again that’s down to the quality and thickness of wood used to construct this place.
The total roof area where all that snow can gather is 814 SQF and the roof has a pitch of 18 degrees, now what that means is you could get a lot of snow just sitting up there on the roof, ok so the pitch or slope of the roof will hopefully let some of that snow slide right off, but as with all well-insulated buildings, you know the sort, the ones that don’t let all the heat go up and out of the wall’s and through the roof to melt that snow off. So let’s face it you are going to get some snow sitting on that roof.
This maybe is something that is important to you because of the area you live in and if you do get some pretty severe snowfalls, this kit comes with the 46 lbs/sqft, snow load capacity as standard but other options, 70 lbs/sqft and 96 lbs/sqft are available. If you live in an area likely to get heavy snowfall then it’s really important you check out the technical stuff, this basically is telling you just how much weight of snow that roof will safely hold.
As for actually putting this Allwood Avalon cabin kit together, the makers say that it should take 2 adults about a week to assemble, following simple step by step instructions, with all nails, screws, fixings, handles, and door locks included.
Let’s just think about that for a moment, this is a pretty big project with some serious lifting and fixing required. I think what they mean is, get two guys in that are used to construction and you’ll be looking at about a week’s work for their time. Then it’s over to you to keep the wood maintained with your choice of wood preserver or wood stain to protect it from the elements, that’s something you should check on yearly, and then this Allwood Avalon Log Cabin kit will last for years and years.
What We Like:
- The versatility of the Allwood Avalon cabin kit – it could be a guest house, summer house, home office, or whatever you want it to be, you decide what best suits your needs.
- Build Quality – Strong construction as standard, with the option of upgrades to the walls, roof, flooring, windows, and doors if you live in areas with a harsh climate.
Things to Consider:
- Suitability – The important thing here is that you can make this Allwood Avalon cabin kit to your own specific needs and requirements, depending on weather conditions in your area.
- Construction – Two adults for about a week to build is the manufactures estimate, but it would be hard going for you if you are not used to construction techniques, so factor into your budget labor costs if you need to hire help in.

Best Two Storey Log Cabin Kit: Allwood Eagle Vista 1336 SQF Cabin Kit
Best Two Storey Log Cabin Kit
Allwood Eagle Vista 1336 SQF Cabin Kit
The thing you notice first is that this cabin kit is big and we mean big.
The Allwood Eagle Vista cabin kit is somewhere you could easily create an amazing place to escape to.
You could use this place as a recreational space for you or the family to retreat to and have fun or create your own office facility to get all the important work stuff done away from the family home.
Let’s face it, you could actually live in this cabin kit, providing local planning would allow this in your particular area.
If you were looking for something that you could assemble yourself, then unless you are really pretty handy on the construction side of things and have plenty of spare time, then think again. You’re going to need to hire in a couple of guys with a construction background to assemble this for you.
You’re going to need plenty of space to build this but WOW, if you have space then this will definitely be the first place you head to when you want to escape the day to day stresses that life throws at us. You know you’ll probably find yourself spending more time in here than you ever thought you would, it’d be like being on holiday but at home.
To be clear this is our high-end choice and as such, it costs more than our top pick but for your money you get a lot of square footage, 1336 sq feet to be exact. You’ll be no doubt be wondering what this actually looks like in terms of living space. The picture’s below will help to give you an idea of what the layout looks like.
The picture below show’s the upstairs layout, you can change things around to suit your own needs of course, but this just gives you an idea of what you can fit into the space.
As you can see, you can fit a whole lot of home comforts into this place, it really is just like a house, and you could quite easily live in this place if your local authority rules allow it.
So let’s get down to the important stuff, is it going to last? Let’s face it, everyone want’s to get value for money, you want to know that it’s built to take on the elements, the wind, rain, and snow let the weather throw all it can at it, while you stay cozy inside.
The Nordic Spruce wood used in this kit has a dense grain and was slowly grown, this basically means it is an excellent choice of wood for use in construction projects, and yes it will last.
The walls are the same thickness as in our Top Pick log cabin kit, that being 2-3/4″ or 70 mm if you prefer metric measurement. As for the Floor, Roof and Ceiling boards, they have a thickness of 23/32″ so as you can see it’s pretty substantial stuff.
A few things to note here is that the roof insulation package is included in this kit but the wall and floor insulation packages are not included, they are available to order as an extra.
With a roof slope of 11 degrees, that’s a sufficient enough pitch to get rid of any rain that falls on to it and drain away easily and quickly. And with a Ridge height of 16’7,” this really does look an impressive building.
As with any building, you want to know that it’s good for dealing with all kinds of weather conditions and this one certainly can. In its standard form, this kit has a Wind load capacity of 120 mph with the standard 2-3/4″ walls. Again you can upgrade the walls if you wish to, the bigger 3-5/8″ walls have a Wind load capacity of 140 mph. So this really is your choice, if you live in an area that gets some pretty strong windy weather, then choose the bigger size.
Maybe you’re not too concerned about windy weather conditions but perhaps snow is the big deal for you because of where you live. Well, again you can specify your own preferences at the ordering stage. Now, this is really important that you choose correctly because if you get a lot of snow in the area that you live in, then all that snow sitting on the roof can add up to quite a heavyweight. In the supplied standard form the roof has a Snow load capacity of 46 lbs/sqft. Remember as I said before this option can be changed if you want to upgrade to the bigger Snow load capacities for 70 lbs/sqft and 96 lbs/sqft.
The important thing to note here is that even though this kit comes with pre-hung and glazed doors and windows, pre-assembled gables, all nails, screws, fixings, handles and door locks this kit is not a stock item.
What that means is you really can style it to your own needs. Maybe you would prefer an extra doorway somewhere or a doorway moving slightly or thicker glass in the windows, this kit is made to order so yes you really can style it to your own individual requirements.
What We Like:
- Versatile – You have lots of choices here, from what you’re going to be using this building as, how about a summer house or guest house, your own home office area or maybe even living in it.
- Build quality – slow grown Nordic Spruce, a great construction wood adding real strength to the walls, floors, and roofing.
- Upgradable – You’re not stuck with standard items, if you want to upgrade to a higher specification such as wood thickness or wall or floor insulation then you can but this comes with extra costs of course.
Things to Consider:
- Assembly – Actually putting it all together – let’s face it, this is a big job. You really need to get the professional’s in to build this for you. Factor in extra money so that this is built correctly and then sit back and enjoy.
- Not included – Roofing material and Foundation materials, so extra costs here to be aware of and again get the professionals in for this kind of work.

Best Mid Range Log Cabin Kit: Allwood Bella | 237 SQF Cabin Kit with 86 SQF Loft
Best Mid Range Log Cabin Kit
Allwood Bella | 237 SQF Cabin Kit with 86 SQF Loft
We really fell for the charm of this cottage-style Log Cabin Kit, from first impressions you get the feeling that this is a really well thought out design.
The downstairs interior space of 237 Sqf is enough for comfortable use with the upstairs loft space of 86 Sqf also being a very usable area. There’s a decked area to the front and left-hand side where you can put a table and chairs and relax in the shade courtesy of the overlapping roof.
Nordic wood is the choice again for this Log Cabin Kit, it provides strength to the structure and is an excellent choice for this kind of building. Now, this is the thing, this is our Mid Range choice but build quality wise this kit comes as standard with the same build specifications found in the much more expensive kits available.
Take the wall thickness as an example of what I just said, it’s 2-3/4″ (70 mm) the same as the previous two Log Cabin Kit reviews, and they are more expensive kits. This means you get the same Snow load capacity values, that’s 46 lbs/sqft as standard, but you also can upgrade to the 70 lbs/sqft or 96 lbs/sqft if you need to.
That’s the thing here, you really are getting value for money with this kit, because again the sizing of the wood used means that the Wind load capacities are the same as the more expensive kits, that’s 120 mph with 2-3/4″ walls and if you want to go for the upgrade option then it’s 140 mph with 3-5/8″ walls. These options and the way it all fits together as shown in the picture below gives you an idea of just how strong this Log Cabin Kit is when it’s all put together using the Duel Tongue and Groove WindBlock wall plank system.
Now you can see why this is our Best Mid Range Log Cabin Kit, it’s got so much in common with the more expensive kits. In standard form, the size of wood and type of wood used is the same so this gives you the same wind and snow load capacities as the more expensive kits, but for a lot less money.
We’ve talked about the design layout of this kit, the type of wood used, the wind and snow capacities and just how nice this Log Cabin Kit looks. So now, Let’s talk roofs.
The overall Roof Area is 596 Sqf, and it has a roof pitch of 25.4 degrees, (that’s the sloping bit) now that information will come in very handy for what I’m going to tell you next. You see this roof has been designed with the perfect pitch to fit solar panels, so if getting power to this Log Cabin could be a problem, then you could always get some solar panels installed and make your own electricity.
An important thing to note here is that you don’t get everything you need in this kit, what you get is all the windows, pre-hung and glazed doors, pre-assembled gables, all nails, screws, fixings, handles and door locks.
What you don’t get are the foundation materials. Depending on the type of ground you’re planning to put this Log Cabin Kit on, it might be hard or soft ground, you maybe need to lay a concrete base down first or cinder blocks. Best to get some professional advice on this.
What We Like:
- Quality Materials – The same high-quality materials that you would find in Log Cabin Kits costing a lot more than this one.
- Design – Cottage style looks, this will fit into any surroundings and not look out of place, what’s not to like about it.
- Solar Panel Ready – The great thing here is that the roof pitch is the perfect angle to mount solar panels on. So if hooking up to an electrical supply is not a possibility, get some solar panels fitted and generate your own electricity.
Things to Consider:
- Assembly – According to the manufacturer, this log cabin kit should take about 16 hours for two adults to assemble, they also say that it comes with do it yourself simple step–by–step instructions and that only minimal tools are needed. Do you fancy putting this kit together or as we think, get a couple of guys in that are used to construction techniques? This, of course, will mean extra costs, so factor this into your budget.
- Foundations – No foundation material’s include, so you’ll need to get some professional advice on what foundation will suit the type of ground that you are building this log cabin kit on. Again this is extra costs you need to be aware of.

Best Budget Option: Allwood Escape – 113 SQF Cabin Kit
Best Budget Option
Allwood Escape – 113 SQF Cabin Kit
This is our Best Budget Option Log Cabin Kit, so what can you expect from our budget choice? Well, obviously it’s not going to have the same thickness of wood as the more expensive models that we have just reviewed. But that doesn’t mean that this Log Cabin Kit isn’t worth consideration, it’s all down to what you want to use this Log Cabin for.
With an internal floor space of 113 Sqf, this still gives you plenty of options as to what you can with that space. Ideally, this should be a summer house where you could go to and relax, maybe even an office area so you can keep your work away from your main house or at a push a spare room for guests to stay, but remember it doesn’t have a bathroom.
The wood used is Nordic Spruce, as we’ve mentioned before, an excellent choice for this kind of use. A wall thickness of 1-3/4″ (44 mm) is obviously thinner than the previous models we’ve looked at, but this is our budget option.
The walls go together using the Dual Tongue Windblock pattern method as shown in the picture, this really does add strength to the construction when it’s all slotted into place.
When all the walls are built up you get a wall height of 6’5″ and a ridge height of 8′ 3″ so still roomy enough to make a nice cozy place to enjoy.
One thing to note here is that the roof shingles and foundation materials are not included with this kit, so this is another added expense that you need to be aware of and factor into your budget.
Now, what about actually putting this kit together. The manufacturer states that the assembly of this solid wood cabin should take about one full day for two adults. We say give yourself plenty of time, especially if you are not that used to assembly techniques, better still get some hired help, although this will obviously mean additional expense.
Do it yourself step-by-step instructions do come with the kit and the manufacturer also say’s that only minimal tools are needed, so if you are up for the challenge of building this Log Cabin Kit, then give it a go.
What We Like:
- Functional – As long as you don’t try to fit too much into the space available and make it cluttered, then it will be a very useful and versatile place to have.
- Simplicity – What you see is what you get, we think it looks good, it looks very well constructed and a space that we’re sure you’ll love escaping to.
Things to Consider:
- Putting the kit together – This is ok if you have some knowledge of construction, but if not, then get hired help in.
- Not Included – Foundations and roof shingles, this means more expense even though this isn’t a big Log Cabin it’s important to get the foundations correct and the roof protected from the elements.
